  Chemical property
It is a white crystalline powder. Odorless, slightly bitter taste, slightly soluble in water (1.14%,25ºC), insoluble in ethanol. Soluble in dilute acid or alkali. mp289ºC(decomposition). Isoelectric point 5.89. [α]D+2.8(5mol/LHCl),[α]D+6.2(0.5mol/LNaOH). Long periods of light color. When heated with water, a small amount of indole is produced. When heated in the presence of sodium hydroxide and copper sulfate, a large amount of indole is produced. The indole is more stable when heated with acids in the dark, but it is easily decomposed when heated with other amino acids, sugars and aldehydes. When proteins are broken down by acid, tryptophan is completely broken down.
 
Product use
Amino acid drugs. For amino acid infusion. Often used with iron, vitamin, etc., and VB6 combined to improve depression, prevention and treatment of rough skin disease; Used as an insomnia sedative in conjunction with L-dopa to treat Parkinson's disease. Carcinogenic to experimental animals; There are nausea, anorexia, wheezing and other adverse reactions. Do not use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors.
