Olive green to dark green, depending on the amount of magnesium incorporated. Slight odor. The melting point of chlorophyll a is 150 ~ 153ºC, and the melting point of chlorophyll b is 183 ~ 185ºC. It co-exists with yellow carotenoids and lutein in the leaves of plants. Sensitive to light and heat, it can be saponified and hydrolyzed into bright green chlorophyllin (salt), chlorophyl alcohol and methanol in dilute lye, and can be dark green to green brown pheophytin in acid solution. Insoluble in water. Soluble in ethanol, ether, acetone and other fat solvents.
     Product use
Edible green coloring. Used in pastries, beverages, liqueur, etc. In fact, the leaves or dried powder of the plant are often used directly. For example, tea dust, mugwort, spinach, chlorella and so on. Add gum to eliminate bad breath. Chlorophyll is used in the coloring of soaps, mineral oils, waxes and essential oils. Derivatives of chlorophyll or chlorophyllin, such as copper chlorophyllin [11006-34-1], sodium ferric chlorophyllin, sodium copper chlorophyllin, are used as colorants and deodorants in foods, sweets, beverages, toothpastes, etc. Chlorophyllic acid derivatives can be used with bactericides such as Germin and halocarban as formulations for smelly cosmetics.
