Calcium propionate is a kind of synthetic organic acid salt, which has strong activity of inhibiting the growth of bacteria, mold and sterilization. Calcium propionate is included in the feed additive list of our country and is suitable for all farmed animals. As a kind of organic acid salt, calcium propionate is not only used as a preservative, but also often used as an acidifier and functional nutritional additive in feed, which plays an active role in improving animal production performance.

  Calcium propionate is also an acid food preservative, and its bacteriostatic effect is affected by the Ph value of the environment. The minimum inhibitory concentration is 0.01% at Ph 5.0 and 0.5% at Ph 6.5. In acidic medium, it has strong inhibitory effect on all kinds of molds, gram-negative bacilli and aerobic bacillus. It has special effect on preventing the production of aflatoxin, but has almost no effect on yeast.
In the food industry, it is mainly used for vinegar, soy sauce, bread, pastries and soybean products, and the maximum usage (calculated by propionic acid, the same below) is 2.5g/kg; The maximum amount used in raw wet products is 0.25g/kg. It can also be used as an anti-mold agent for feed.
