Squalane is an important component of human sebum. The sebum secreted by the sebaceous glands of human skin contains about 10% squalene and 2.4% squalane. The body converts squalene into squalane. Squalene provides oxygen and nutrients to cells, promotes cell metabolism, forms a sebum membrane in the outer layer of the skin, prevents water loss, and protects against bacteria, dust and UV damage. However, the amount of squalene secreted by women from the mid-20s will drop sharply, with the resulting skin problems such as dehydration, slack, dullness, and aging. Therefore, it is very important to supplement the skin with squalane! Squalene and squalane have almost the same cosmetic effect, but the molecular structure of squalene is unstable and easy to be oxidized, so it is generally encapsulated in capsules and suitable for internal administration; Squalane is a stable state of pure oil, suitable for external use.
Physical and chemical properties
Refined squalane is a colorless, tasteless, odorless, inert transparent oily viscous liquid. It is slightly soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone and glacial acetic acid, and can be mixed with benzene, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, petroleum ether, ether, mineral oil and other animal and plant oils. Relative density (15°/4ºC)0.812, refractive index (15° C)1.4530, iodine value 0 ~ 5, saponification value 0 ~ 5, acid value 0 ~ 0.2, freezing point -38ºC, boiling point 350ºC. Stable in air, it oxidizes slowly under sunlight. The sebaceous glands can synthesize squalene, the sebum contains squalene, the sebum content is 1% in children, and the sebum content is 10% in adults. The mass fraction of squalane in sebum is about 2%. Its permeability, lubricity and permeability are better than other oils, and match with most cosmetics raw materials.
