Povidone iodine is an unstable complex formed by the complexation of surfactant and iodine. It is an iodophor type external disinfectant. It is a yellow-brown to red-brown amorphous powder at normal temperature and is easily soluble in water or ethanol. It is a broad-spectrum bactericide.
It is mainly used for skin disinfection and equipment disinfection in hospital operation and injection, as well as prevention of infection in stomatology, gynecology, surgery and dermatology; sterilization and disinfection of household utensils and utensils. It can be used as a bactericidal disinfectant and bacteriostatic agent in medicines.
