Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) is a water-soluble polyamide. According to the K value (Fikentscher K value), it is divided into four viscosity grades: K-15, K-30, K-60, K-90, and its number average relative molecular weight is 10000, 40000016000 and 360000 respectively. K value or relative molecular weight is one of the important factors that determine the properties of PVP.

Polyvinylpyrrolidone PVP is one of the three major new pharmaceutical excipients, which can be used as a cosolvent for tablets, granules and injections, a flow aid for capsules, a dispersant for liquid preparations and colorants, a coprecipitator for insoluble drugs, and a detoxicant and lubricant for ophthalmic drugs.

In daily cosmetics, PVP and copolymer have good dispersibility and film-forming property, and can be used as the setting agent of setting liquid, sunscreen of hair conditioner, and foam stabilizer of shampoo.
