Product Usage
Timicosin is a relatively new macrolide antibiotic for livestock and poultry, which is semi-synthesized from Tylomycin and is chemically named 4A-O- (2, 6-dideoxy-3-C-methyl-l-ribose - pyranyl) -20-deoxy-20 - (3, 5-dimethyl-1-piperidine) - [20 (cis-type: Tylomycin, molecular formula C46H80N2O13, molecular weight 869.15. Timicosin has a similar antibacterial profile to tylosin, but has enhanced effects against both Pasteurella septicus and Pasteurella hemolyticus. It was developed in the 1980s, initially using the code name ChemicalbookEL-870. Commonly used trade names are Pulmotil© and Micotil©, and preparations are Timicosin soluble powder, premix (20%), and injection. It was approved in most European countries in 1990 and in the United States in 1992, and is included in the United States Pharmacopoeia. Some companies in China are already approved to produce temicosin. Due to its special antibacterial activity and pharmacokinetic characteristics, the drug has been approved for clinical use in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases in cattle, goats, sheep, cows, pigs, chickens and other animals. In particular, the treatment of respiratory diseases in livestock, such as actinobacillus pleuropneumonia in livestock, pasteurellosis and mycoplasmosis in chickens, and mastitis in lactating animals.
