    L(+) -tartaric acid is widely used as a souring agent in beverages and other foods, including wine, soft drinks, sweets, breads, and certain gelatinous sweets. Its optical activity was used as a chemical resolution agent for the resolution of DL-aminobutanol, an anti-tuberculosis drug intermediate. It can also be used as chiral raw materials for the synthesis of tartaric acid derivatives. Using its acidity, it can be used as catalyst for resin finishing of polyester fabric and PH regulator for glutarine production. Using its complexation property, it can be used as complexation agent, masking agent, chelating agent and anti-dyeing agent in electroplating, desulfurization, pickling, chemical analysis and medical inspection. Using its reducing property, it can be used as a reducing agent for chemical mirror making. A photographic developer. It can also be complexed with a variety of metal ions, and can be used as a cleaning agent and polishing agent for metal surfaces. As an antioxidant added to food, it can give food a sour taste.
