Hydroxyethyl cellulose is white or yellowish odorless, tasteless and flowable powder. Soluble in cold water and hot water, generally insoluble in most organic solvents. The viscosity changes little in the range of PH 2-12, but the viscosity decreases beyond this range.

Hydroxyethyl cellulose is generally used as a thickening agent, protective agent, binder, stabilizer, and an additive for the preparation of emulsions, jellies, ointments, lotions, eye cleansers, suppositories and tablets, and is also used as a hydrophilic gel. It can also be used as a stabilizer in food, and can also be used as a stabilizer in food.
