Cetearyl Alcohol is a mixture of solid aliphatic alcohols, mainly composed of stearyl (C18H38O) and cetyl (C16H34O) alcohols. It is a white particle, flake or block like substance. Product Functional Category and Applications
Can be used as a lubricant; Emulsifier; Thickener.
1. Cetearyl Alcohol is used in cosmetics and topical preparations. In topical formulations, hexadecadecyl alcohol increases the viscosity of w/o and o/w emulsions. Hexadecanol can stabilize emulsions and have a co emulsifying effect, thus reducing the amount of surfactant required to form stable emulsions.
2. Cetearyl Alcohol is also used to prepare non-aqueous creams and lipstick. According to reports, hexadecadecyl alcohol can be used to reduce the release of water-soluble drugs.
3. Cetearyl Alcohol can be combined with surfactants to form emulsions with complex microstructures, including liquid crystal, plate structure and gel phase.
