    Magnesium hydroxide is an excellent flame retardant for plastics and rubber products. In terms of environmental protection, as a flue gas desulfurizer, it can replace  lime as a neutralizer of acid-containing wastewater and a heavy metal adsorbent. In addition, it can also be used in the electronics industry, medicine, sugar refining, as insulation materials and manufacture other magnesium salt products.
     This product has the advantages of smokeless, non-toxic, non-corrosive, cheap and easy to obtain, and the temperature of the water released by decomposition is higher than that of aluminum hydroxide. More suitable for high temperature processing plastic requirements. Magnesium hydroxide can be used as a flame retardant for polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, EPDM rubber, unsaturated polyester and other plastics and rubber. It can also be used as a flame retardant for coatings.

Chemical property
Magnesium hydroxide is a common magnesium salt compound with the formula Mg(OH)2. Molecular weight 58.33. White hexagonal crystal or amorphous powder. The relative density is 2.36. At 350ºC, one molecule of water is lost and MgO is formed. Soluble in dilute acid and ammonium salt solution, almost insoluble in water and alcohol. Solubility in water (18ºC) is 0.0009g/100g. When water is present, carbon dioxide is absorbed to form basic magnesium carbonate or magnesium carbonate.It occurs in nature as brucite ore. An emulsion suspension of magnesium hydroxide used in medicine as an antacid and laxative, prepared by the reaction of a magnesium salt, such as magnesium chloride or magnesium sulfate, A magnesium hydroxide precipitate (milk of magnesia) can also be obtained by reacting seawater with cheap lime milk :Mg2++Ca(OH)2 = Mg(OH)2+Ca2+
